Dear Mulligan Society,
Thanks for coming back to read another post--an entire year later! Even though I've been absent in my posting, it's not because nothing has been going on! :)
Would you believe that TODAY marks the first day of FCA Golf's 2014 Golf Camp season? This afternoon, FCA Golf will welcome campers throughout the west to our very first camp of the summer--our inaugural Arizona Junior Golf Camp. This year we have been blessed with the opportunity to utilize a beautiful course in the pine forests of the Tonto Rim basin area of Payson, AZ. We will spend our days at The Rim Golf Club and early mornings and evenings at Tonto Rim Christian Camp. I am incredibly thankful for these two facilities and the kindness of the staff that has allowed us to utilize them!
Even though camp starts today, Arizona has been home for me and 6 others since Thursday. On Thursday, I picked up and met FCA Golf's 5 Mission 4:33 Team members for the 2014 camp season. Mission 4:33... What's that? You may be asking... I'd encourage you to visit FCA Golf's Mission 4:33 webpage to learn more about our Mission 4:33 program.
In a nutshell, Mission 4:33 is the name FCA Golf has given to a small team of college students who dedicate their summer to serving FCA Golf and the youth that attend our camps across the country. The name Mission 4:33 comes from Acts 4:33: "The apostles gave witness to the resurrection of Jesus and grace was upon them." Much like the apostles, our Mission 4:33 Team Members are excited to have the same mission--spending their summer giving witness to the resurrection of Jesus as they build relationships and care for aspiring young golfers all across the country. As they do so, they can walk confidently--as the Lord grants them the grace needed for each and every moment.
Over the past 3 1/2 days, I have spent time with these interns training them for what lies ahead this next week and summer. We've spent time working through small group dynamics, we've mock-played huddle/small group meetings, we've played some golf, and we've been praying for a great week and summer ahead! This year's team is amazing. I'm thankful for these college students and the desire they have to bring the good news of Jesus to junior golfers.
As Arizona Golf Camp begins later today and FCA Golf's 2014 Camp Season kicks off, could I ask you to join me in prayer this week? First and foremost, please pray that this camp would bring glory to Jesus Christ--that the campers and staff here this week would grow in their understanding of the gospel--Christ's life, death, burial, resurrection and ascension--and why this good news literally changes everything about you, your life and the world around you.
Second, if I could ask you to pray for the following things this week, I, and our camp staff, would be incredibly grateful!
- Sunday- Final preparations prior to campers' arrival, Campers' travel, and a smooth registration process
- Monday - Camp Staff; my leadership as camp director, our golf instructors, huddle leaders, our chaplain, music leader
- Tuesday - Camp Schedule; golf instruction; time on the course, chapels, game times, huddle meetings
- Wednesday - Weather and facilities staff (camp and golf course)
- Thursday - Campers travel home; final huddle meetings and conversations
Looking forward to sharing with you all the great things God does in the lives of campers this week. Thanks for praying and standing with us--I can't thank you enough!!
You are loved,
