Check Your Lenses For 2011

Dear Mulligan Society,

When was the last time you had your lenses checked?  You don’t wear glasses?  Well, maybe you should…

As I reflect on 2010, one word comes to mind: faithful.  In a year that has brought plenty of change and new experiences, Karen and I are extremely grateful for the Lord's continued faithfulness and provision.  We’re reminded that nothing is better than following Jesus.  As we continue to commit our path and footsteps to Him, God remains faithful toward us.  It’s like being given a new pair of glasses…  Once you put them on your face, your eyes see in new ways how God gives you exactly what you need, as you need it, moment by moment, as you trust Him.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are "Yes" in Christ.  And so through him the "Amen" is spoken by us to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20

Christ is faithful to His followers.  Even though our circumstances vary, God’s faithfulness in those circumstances does not.  Put your new shades on and walk into 2011 with confidence and assurance!

and the government will be on His shoulders.
He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

FCA National Scramble Feedback

Dear Mulligan Society,

I want to share with you some of the positive feedback we have recieved since the conclusion of the 2010 FCA National Scramble Championship.

“A great week.  Tremendous experience.  Great fellowship.”

“I hope I can come back for years to come.”

“Thank you for the wonderful first class tournament we played in last week…  One of our players recommitted his life to God Friday night.”

“Our weekend was absolutely fantastic…memories for a lifetime!”

“This was an outstanding event and I must say it exceeded our team’s expectations. The opportunity for golf, fellowship and spiritual encouragement was a blessing to all that participated.”
I share these comments with you because I am continually amazed at how God impacts the lives of people through the game of golf.  Participants were touched by the fun they had, the fellowship they experienced and the encouragement they recieved.  Could we have asked for anything more?  God is faithful.

Thank you for standing with me and praying for this event.  Our prayers were answered in abundance!

FCA National Scramble Dinner Program

Mulligan Society,

We had a wonderful dinner banquet and program last night at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort.

FCA Camper, Travis Parent, shared the impact FCA Golf's St. Augustine Camp had on his life in the midst of his Father's death this past summer.  In addition, Tom Randall, Chaplain of the Champions Tour, interviewed Fred Funk and his wife, Sharon, and ended the evening with a great message about the power of forgiveness.

Nick Yarborough, Worship Pastor of Crosswater Community Church, and his band provided music for the evening.

Thank you for your prayers!

Update

Dear Mulligan Society,

Just wanted to take a moment to update you on a few things I have been blessed to be a part of this past week.

As many of you know, I was asked to come and speak at a golf retreat last Friday and Saturday (11/5 & 11/6) in Jekyll Island, GA for CrossWater Community Church in Ponte Vedra Beach.  Not only was it a priviledge and blessing to challenge these men in their walk with Christ, but it was also a blessing to get to know several of them over two days of golf.  Friday night, before dinner, I spoke to all 24 of them about their pre-shot routine--specifically, what preparations are you making in order to execute the will of God in your life?

Should you wish to listen to my talk, you can do so by clicking "play" on the player below.  Please send me your feedback if you listen.

On Monday, November 8th, I was asked to give the invocation at the PGA Tour's Birdies for the Brave Charity Golf Outing, held at TPC Sawgrass.  What a pleasure and priviledge it was to be a part of this.  I was humbled to meet a general and several soldiers, some of which are amputee victims.  How thankful I am for the blessing of freedom that these men and women have fought to secure.  I've included a couple of photos below from the event.

With Veterans Day tomorrow, take a moment to acknowledge the freedom we have, and the price for which it was bought.  Take the time to thank both a soldier and your Heavenly Father!

TPC Sawgrass Birdies for the Brave

Dear Mulligan Society,

I was asked the later part of this past week to give the invocation at this year's Birdies for the Brave Charity Golf Outing.  Birdies for the Brave is the PGA TOUR's program designed to express appreciation to the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces and to raise funds for military charities that support Wounded Warriors and their families.  Thankfully, I have been given no stipulations as to what is or is not off limits.  As I result, I have the priviledge of honoring Jesus, as well as our nation's U.S. Armed forces.  What a priviledge!!

In light of Thankgiving and Veteran's Day (Thursday), this is the prayer I will be praying:

Father God in Heaven,

As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, we are mindful of your blessings.  Lord, we are thankful for your presence with us here this morning at the Birdies for the Brave Charity Golf Outing.  We are thankful for the sunshine and the warmth that it brings (will bring us today).  Father, we are thankful for your provision.  We are thankful that you have given us abundantly more that what we deserve.  And, Lord, we’re thankful that you give us exactly what we need.

Father, your Word tells us that you have given us blessing, that we may be a blessing.  So this morning, Lord, we thank you for our men and women of service.  We lift to you these heroes standing in our midst, as well as those serving and fighting so faithfully in this country and on foreign soil.  Lord, we thank you for the blessing of freedom that all these men and women have fought to secure.  We thank you that these men and women have put their country before themselves; that they have put mercy above their very own lives.

Lord, we acknowledge that the blessing of freedom comes a cost.  And so we lift up the families of our troops to you right now.  Bring comfort to them as they long to see their loved ones.  Give them peace and assurance as you keep a watchful eye over their mothers, fathers, sons and daughters.  For the families who have lost loved ones in battle, meet them where they’re at Father, and consol their hearts with your love and peace.

Father, your Word reminds us that we can take comfort in knowing that you understand the cost that comes with freedom.  For it is only by the cost of your Son, Jesus, that we can experience freedom in this life and the next.  So, Lord, we thank you, too, for this blessing.

And now, Lord, may you be pleased with what takes place here today.  Again, we thank you for our brave men and women of service.  May they and You be honored today in this place.

In Christ’s name I pray,
Amen.

CrossWater Community Church Golf Retreat

Mulligan Society,

Please keep the men of CrossWater Community Church in your prayers today as I will be joining 20-30 of them in Jekyll Island, GA for their annual golf retreat.  Tonight I will have the chance to speak to them about their "pre-shot routine."  In short, what preparations are they making daily to execute the will of God in their lives?  Pray that the Spirit would be present and meet these men right where they're at.

Thanks for your support and prayers!

You are loved,
Matt
